I find it interesting where people pick their page to sign since the other thing I tell people are the three rules:
1. There’s a Front Door — Rated PG13
2. There’s a Back Door — Not Rated (I flip the journal around and show them)
3. There’s no rules!
I usually add in that the Back Door is for private uncensored thoughts, but it’s open ended. People often ask where they should sign but I refer to rule #3 (which is an oxymoron).
People peruse the journal and find their spot. Some nestle in with a crowded page, others take a blank page and make it their own. I love how journal signers become roommates on a page too — like Jillian and Hieu. Jillian works in the Arts and Hieu works in Science. Hgygen is a PhD working in a focused specialty in Science. She had a horrible experience as a female scientist in academia. She is so passionate about Science and helping young women in Science. She also is writing a memoir of a sibling’s tragic death. She also gave me an awesome fine tip pen because I commented on how lovely her handwriting was. I still have the pen (even though I lose pens all the time).
Everyone has a story. The Original Journal wants to know them all.
A day in the #sky/ leaping towards us/ A gust of #wind/ and the #dog becomes/ Another form to alert our/ #imagination/ A sky full of #dreams/ Big enough to cover the #World/ Everybody can have a go/ if they could only look up/ instead of down — Pat 10-7-97 from Sketch Journal circa 1997
This Original Journal signer is frim Nepal. Rabindra spoke very passionately about his home and its natural beauty. He was our waitor at Kabob and Curry in Raleigh, NC in March 2015. My thought and prayers go out to all Nepal as they deal with the recent devastation.
Dear Megan, Thanks for providing me an opportunity to share about myself in your memobook. It’s a wonderful medium for me to share my feelings. Being here in the United States, the best thing that I have learnt is to utilize the time in an effective way and the best part is the dignity of labour. But what I felt missing over here is some part of the social life. The sharing, caring everything is kind of formality over here in most of the cases. I miss my home quite often but the determination I get from their support whenever I am in touch with them has given me the strength to get the best out of situation and to continue my further studies and graduate as an expert in engineering in near future. Thanks a lot for your generosity.
Enjoyed talking with you. Good luck in all your endeavors.
Note to readers: I used a pen name in my twenties — Frank Fairmont. I adopted the name of my 1979 Ford Fairmont. His name was Frank. I signed my poetry using that pen name. Also, memo are my initials. The Original Journal will be published under the name memomuse. I am working with a graphic designer, who is designing the logo. I can’t wait for the reveal. Please stay tuned to blog and social media accounts as I will keep you posted. This has been a twenty year dream to publish this journal and create a journal for you to write in and have your friends and random people to sign.
The Leap Journal is one of my favorite journals. It has so many interesting original journal signatures in it. So many words of faith from others and reflections on faith. This journal was in use when I was making a huge decision and I had to leap. It took faith. I trusted my Higher Power to guide me and guide me S(He) did.
Well I must be crazy for doing this 70 hour trip again but its worth it. Theres no shortage of strange people and stories. It’s about hour 56 for me right now and so I can barely think but Ill be sure to send along some stories of the rest of my trip including Truth or Consequences.
Traveling is a very cool thing — seeing new places, meeting new people. Its all good.
